In a passionate defence of the Tinubu administration, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has challenged opposition politicians to rise above partisan interests and objectively assess the government’s performance. Speaking before a gathering of prominent political leaders in Abuja, Wike argued that political rivalry should never stand in the way of recognising policies and reforms that deliver results for Nigerians.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition figures across the country to acknowledge what he described as the significant achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, insisting that political differences should not prevent honest assessments of governance.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, an event attended by party leaders, governors and influential political stakeholders from across Nigeria.
Describing himself as a committed member and leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wike explained that his support for President Tinubu was rooted in what he sees as courageous leadership and decisive policymaking. He stressed that political affiliations should not stop public figures from recognising initiatives that advance the national interest.
The former Rivers State governor rejected claims that the administration lacks direction, arguing that President Tinubu has shown a willingness to tackle long-standing national challenges that previous governments identified but failed to decisively address.
On security, Wike expressed confidence in the administration’s efforts to strengthen national security and highlighted the proposed creation of state police as a major reform capable of improving security management across the country. He noted that discussions around state policing remain an important national conversation, particularly regarding constitutional safeguards, accountability, funding mechanisms and coordination between federal and state authorities.
The FCT Minister also delivered a challenge to members of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, urging them to prove their political relevance through tangible results and grassroots impact rather than relying solely on the influence of their positions or appointments.
According to a review of the event prepared by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Wike’s remarks stood out as one of the defining moments of the inauguration ceremony.
The event brought together political leaders from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, reflecting a broader conversation on governance, national development and political accountability.
FORCEPA noted that the gathering provided an avenue for stakeholders to exchange views on governance, public accountability, security reforms and the role of constructive political engagement in advancing national development.
The Forum further emphasised that public debate on government performance should be guided by verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and the lived experiences of Nigerians across all sectors of society.
