‘31 Governors, One Direction’: Soludo Hails Unprecedented Backing For Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

In a remarkable show of political unity that cut across party lines, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has declared that the wave of support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ambition is unlike anything Nigeria has witnessed in its democratic history. Speaking in Abuja, the APGA leader described the gathering of political heavyweights and governors at the APC Presidential Campaign Council inauguration as evidence of a rare national consensus around the President’s leadership.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the growing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as an unprecedented political phenomenon, citing the broad coalition of governors and political stakeholders rallying behind the President’s re-election bid.

Speaking at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Wednesday, Soludo said the event reflected a level of political and elite consensus rarely seen in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

According to a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Soludo’s remarks centred on national unity, economic reforms and the importance of political collaboration in driving development.

The Anambra Governor, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), explained that his party’s support for President Tinubu is rooted in a shared commitment to national cohesion, security and economic prosperity.

Highlighting the scale of political participation at the event, Soludo pointed to the presence and support of approximately 31 state governors, describing it as a powerful indication of the confidence many political leaders have in the administration’s direction.

He noted, however, that the support expressed at the gathering should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement by every governor or voter across the country.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also used the platform to defend the economic vision of the Tinubu administration.

Drawing from his experience as an economist, Soludo characterised the government’s approach as “pragmatic progressivism,” arguing that the administration has demonstrated the courage to confront difficult structural problems rather than postpone critical reforms.

According to him, President Tinubu inherited an economy burdened by significant challenges and has since embarked on policies aimed at moving Nigeria from instability towards recovery, growth and long-term prosperity.

Soludo praised the President’s grasp of public finance and economic management, maintaining that current reforms should be assessed against the backdrop of the deep-rooted structural issues that existed before the administration took office.

While acknowledging that debates continue over the speed at which economic reforms are translating into benefits for ordinary Nigerians, he insisted that the administration remains focused on addressing long-standing challenges and laying a foundation for sustainable development.

His participation at the APC Presidential Campaign Council inauguration drew attention because of his continued membership of APGA, underscoring a political landscape where cooperation across party lines is increasingly shaping national conversations.

FORCEPA noted that Soludo’s intervention placed economic policy, governance and institutional performance at the forefront of discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election.

The forum also emphasised the critical role of public institutions in implementing government policies, monitoring development programmes and ensuring that accurate information on public sector performance remains accessible to Nigerians.
