The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has revoked the licenses of 574 schools across Nigeria, disqualifying them from serving as examination centres for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.

The Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO) of WAEC, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing held at the Council’s national headquarters in Lagos.

He stated that WAEC will no longer recognize these schools as examination centres and will not conduct any exams within their premises.

According to him, the decision followed various infractions, including breaches of exam regulations, and forms part of the Council’s broader strategy to safeguard the credibility of its examinations.

“Henceforth, these schools will not be used for the conduct of any of our examinations,” Dr. Dangut stated.

In a stern warning to operators of rogue websites, Dr. Dangut cautioned against attempts to compromise the examination process.

He urged parents and guardians to resist the temptation of patronising such platforms, describing them as “evildoers” working to sabotage the future of innocent candidates.

“We want to sound a serious warning to all operators of rogue websites—WAEC will not condone their heinous acts.

We are fully prepared to track and prosecute offenders in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. There will be no hiding place for them,” he said.

He further warned that those caught in previous years faced serious consequences and advised potential violators to desist.

“Parents must not fall for these criminals. Doing so only puts their children’s academic future at risk. If you fall victim, you may not be able to tell the story,” he added.

Highlighting the Council’s commitment to improving performance and assisting candidates, Dr. Dangut announced new resources available to aid exam preparation.

These include past question and answer booklets with Chief Examiners’ Reports across core, science, arts, and commercial subjects.

The reports offer detailed insights into candidate performance and recommendations for improvement.

Dr. Dangut emphasized that WAEC is not only focused on conducting credible exams but is also invested in helping candidates succeed. He reiterated the Council’s readiness to ensure a smooth and secure examination process in 2025.
