The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Tuesday, stepped up commitment to delivery of its mandates with launch of NERC Service Charter and inauguration of its SERVICOM Committee.
This is even as the Minister of Power, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, urged NERC not to relent in its services, but to be customer focused, citizen centered and continue its good work to upgrade services in the power sector in service to humanity.
The Minister in a goodwill message, further expressed hope that an effective implementation of the Charter would definitely improve services, educate on the rights and obligations of electricity consumers, address complaint through the redress mechanism put in place, improve staff competencies and skills, productivity, human resources administration as well as produce result-based performances.
Engr. Aliyu noted that the Charter established the high standards of service that the electricity customers can expect from power sector as it provided information on how the Commission can comment on its services including how to lodge complaints, give compliments and make suggestions.
Earlier, the Chairman of NERC, Engr. Sanusi Garba, reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission to improved efficient delivery of services to all stakeholders of the Commission and Nigeria in general.
He said: From NERC’s perspective, we want to take SERVICOM beyond service between government agencies and Nigerian public because by our regulations of public utilities, it meant that Nigerian consumers are getting service from public utilities and they deserve efficient service.
“So, on our own part as Commission, the law and business rules of the Commission clearly provides timelines within which we must act. So, we are not only bound by the SERVICOM Charter, there are also legal provisions that bound us on how efficiently we do our things.
“On behalf of the commission, I want to say that the Discos, GenCos, that are here, the investors that engage with the Commission, we commit to doing what needs to be done, we commit to efficient service to all clients that write us.”
The high point of the event was the inauguration of the NERC SERVICOM Committee and launch of the NERC Service Charter by the SERVICOM National Coordinator, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli.
