The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has welcomed Mrs. Yetunde Olubunmi Ilori, B.Sc., ACII, FIIN, as its 52nd President and Chairman of the Council.
Mrs. Ilori’s dedication, leadership, and integrity have made her a prominent figure in the insurance industry, both in Nigeria and internationally.
Mrs. Ilori began her illustrious career with Trans Nigeria Assurance Company Limited in Ibadan in 1984, starting as a youth service assignee and soon becoming a permanent staff member. She quickly advanced to Head of the Life and Pensions Department, and later, she led the Claims and Reinsurance Department, showcasing her dedication and skill.
In 1997, she joined Crusader Insurance Plc in Lagos State, where she served as Head of Actuarial, Research & Statistics, and Life Departments.
Her strategic leadership continued at AXA Mansard Insurance Plc (formerly Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc) in 2004, where, as Managing Director/CEO, she transformed the company into a leading insurance provider in Nigeria. Under her tenure, the company’s gross premium income skyrocketed from N27 million to over N13 billion, and it expanded into various new product lines.
Mrs. Ilori’s exemplary leadership extended to her role as Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).
She became the first female DG/CEO and the first female Chairperson of the Life Committee of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO). Her tenure saw the completion of the NIA’s iconic six-story building and the implementation of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Database (NIID), enhancing the credibility of insurance products in Nigeria. She also digitized the manual compilation and presentation of statistical reports, making them easily accessible for reference and analysis.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Ilori has held several prominent positions, including Chairperson of the Life Committee of the AIO, Chairperson of the Life Offices Committee of the NIA, and Chairperson of the Planning Committee of the Insurance Industry Consultative Committee.
She has also served the Institute as Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee, Treasurer, Deputy President, and Immediate Past Chairman of the Governing Board of the College of Insurance & Financial Management.
A graduate of Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, Mrs. Ilori is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (London), an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
She has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Lagos Business School and attended numerous training courses both within and outside Nigeria.
Mrs. Yetunde Ilori’s extensive experience and remarkable achievements make her a beacon of excellence in the insurance industry, poised to lead CIIN to new heights.
