Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice – Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), has urged participants in the 2018 Ready Set Work (RSW) to leverage on the opportunities in the programme to recognise their strength and bring out their best.

Fagbohun said this at the opening of the third edition of RSW initiative on Saturday at LASU.

RSW is a Lagos State Government-sponsored programme established in 2016 to train final year and penultimate students tertiary institutions in the state on employability and entrepreneurship.

Seasoned instructors, many of whom are professionals across different fields, would engage the students for 13 Saturdays on job search, getting and maintaining jobs as well as becoming outstanding professionals.

Fagbohun lauded the state government for the initiative designed to enable participants to understand that life is full of benefits and challenges.

“After the programme, you will understand that life is full of benefits and challenges and you will recognize that when you manage your challenges well, the benefits will be greater.

“More than 10, 000 final year students wanted to be a part of this programme. But only you were chosen and what that should tell you is that, you are the best of the best.

” You must recognize your strength and prove that you are the best of the best, ” he said

Fagbohun said students should also recognize that their institutions would not teach them everything and so must position themselves as trainable individuals.

He urged the participants to use the programme to take responsibility for their lives and stop talking about being under witchcraft spell.

” Sometimes, when you go to banks you see someone who read English recruited ahead of someone who read accountancy, this is because they are looking for goal getters.

” Remember, you are the best of the best, so you cannot afford to fail, ” Fagbohun said.

Dr Omolola Oladele, Provost, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, also said the programme marked a new beginning in the life of the participants and urged them to invest their best.

Institutions used as centres for the RSW were LASU, University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology, Federal College of Education (Technical) , Akoka , Lagos State Polytechnic and Caleb University.

Mr Obafemi Bank -Olemoh, Special Adviser to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on Education, had said that the state government was scaling up the programme to accommodate 25,000 students instead of 12,000 that were trained in 2017.

Bank – Olemoh said 5,000 final year students would participate in the 13-week training, while 20,000 students in their penultimate year would take part in the RSW Online Academy.

This, he said, would ensure that students who graduated from tertiary institutions in Lagos State were prepared for the world of work as employers of labour or a value – adding employees.
