Jigawa Assembly Approves N116.9 Billion 2024 Supplementary Budget

The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved the sum of N116.9 billion as supplementary budget for the state and local governments 2024 Appropriation Bill.

While shedding more lights on the approvals, the Speaker of the Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin said, the lawmakers considered the supplementary budget sent by the executive after a recommendation by the commitee set up by the assembly.

He explained that, the House chairman of Appropriation Committee, Ibrahim Hamza recommended for the approval of the state and local government supplementary budgets to enable the executive to deliver much expected dividends of democracy.

According to the Speaker going by the current inflation, the executive needed additional money to be able to execute capital projects, strengthen public service delivery in line with the Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda designed to make Jigawa state prosperous and great.

“According to the supplementary budgets report, the sum of Eighty Five Billion Four Hundred and Ten Million Naira (N85,410,000,000 00) approved for the state government.

“The money included N7.7 billion for recurrent expenditure and N78 billion for capital projects, under the additional money for capital projects

The breakdown of the figure indicated that N35.8 billion allocated to Ministry of Works and Transport, N4.4 billion State Emergency Management Agency, N7.9 billion Road Maintenance Agency.

“Others additional money included N2.5 billion for Agriculture,N2 billion Rural Electrification, N2.4 billion Environment, N 4.2 billion Ministry of Health, N4.6 billion Higher Education, N500 Million for Basic Education “

“However the assembly approved the sum of N31.5 billion as supplementary budget for the 27 local government areas of the state”

“Under the local government”s supplementary budgets, the sum of N12.6 billion allocated for recurrent expanditure andN18.9 billion for capital projects”.

It would be recalled that Namadi on December 28, 2023 signed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of 298.14bn into law at the council chambers, following its successful passage by the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
