The Gombe State House of Assembly has restated its commitment to leverage on the use of Information Technology (IT) for enhancing the efficiency of its legislative business.
The speaker of the assembly, Muhammad Abubakar Luggerewo made the remark while fielding questions from newsmen at the opening of a four-day retreat organized for members and principal officers of the assembly in Dutse, Jigawa state on Thursday.
Luggerewo said, the theme of the retreat was Technology Adoption For Democracy Development and Promoting e-Legislative was design to acquaint the members of the assembly on the need to adopt IT to ensure consistent and effective legislative activities in the state.
He believed that leveraging the advantage of IT would help the lawmakers in strengthening their legislative duty while at same time, promoting democracy and efficient public service delivery.
The speaker thanked the host Jigawa state Governor, Umar Namadi, for honouring them by gracing the opening session of the retreat
Luggerewo also commended Namadi for operating people’s oriented government and delivering dividend of democracy to doorstep of Jigawa citizens.
In his remark, Namadi said, the theme of the retreat “Technology Adoption for Democratic Development” signifies the commitment of the Gombe Assembly to promote transparency and accountability in democracy and governance in Nigeria.
He maintained that, promoting digital adoption will simplify legislative process there by paving way for passing bills and enacting laws that will enhance security, social and economic wellbeing of the people according to the time and conditioned
Namadi noted that, Information Technology is a powerful tools in strengthen democratic process, from e-voting, e-busines, e-Data transmission and storage economic and human capital development, therefore the Theme is timely and commendable.
