A Professor of Labour Economocs, Human Resources Management, University of Lagos (UNILAG) and former Vice Chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Prof. Sola Fajana has stated that the number of people to be develop do not match with the number of institutions in Nigeria.
He urge the federal government to build more institutions for students across the country to ensure the development of a large number of youths especially students.
The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU) tasked political leaders on quality moral character as it is one of the important part of human capital development.
Fajana who was represented by Dr. Oluwafemi Olaoluwa Joseph of the department of Business Administration, UNILAG stated this at the 2019 Annual Conference of the Department of Industrial Relations and Public Administration, LASU theme ‘Human Capital Building and Sustainable Development In Africa: Issues, Options and Opportunity in the 21st Century.’
He said “we must match the number of institution in this country with the number of people to be developed, we have enough people to be developed but less institutions.”
He urged students to increase their employability by adopting lifestyle that will increase their future labour market fortunes.
Furthermore, he urged that students must take enterprenuership serious “testimonies from old students lend support to the sustainability value of enterprenuership training later in life,” he stated.
Highlighting skills in demand, he stated that sense-making, social intelligence, Novel and Adaptive thinking, cross-cultural competency, computational thinking to mention but a few are key skills demanded when recruiting new employees.
Congratulating the two host of the conference, LASU VC, represented by the DVC Admin, Oyedamola Oke mentioned that this is the first time two departments are coming together to host a conference as such.
Speaking on the theme, he said “an important part of my human capital is moral characters, our leaders should work on their moral character so as we the followers.”
Most problems we are facing in this country is caused by the activities of followers who encourage them to continue in their immoral act.”
Also Speaking, the Dean of Management Sciences, Prof. R.B Yusuf stated that since Nigeria is not a developed country government should put up policies to facilitate development.
Nigeria is a country with 200M human population and human capital play a major role to the development of a country “the solution is the need to have human capital building.
