The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the release of 11,816 results of candidates that sat the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2020 – First Series

The council’s partnership with Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) aimed towards seamless Electronic Certificate Management System will enable private candidates, starting with the 2020 candidates – first series to apply and pay for their certificates online.

The Head of Nigeria National Office, Olu I. Adenipekun who announced the release of the results during a press conference Today in Lagos noted that the release is coming 30 days after the conclusion of the examination.

Speaking to journalists Tuesday in Lagos, Adenipekun disclosed that 12,395 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 12,075 candidates sat the examination adding that 6,331 were male while 5,744 were female, representing 52% and 47.57% respectively.

He noted that 548 candidates, representing 4.54% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

He said “the analysis of the statistics of candidates’ performance show that a total of 3,892 candidates, representing 32.23% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language and General Mathematics, 9,438 candidates, representing 78.16% obtained credit and above in two (2) subjects, 8,125 candidates, representing 67.29% obtained credit and above in three (3) subjects, 6,713 candidates, representing 55.59% obtained credit and above in four (4) subjects and 5,251 candidates, representing 43.49% obtained credit and above in five subjects”

“259 candidates, representing 2.14% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination,” he stated.

On the council’s collaboration with NIPOST, Adenipekun explained that the collaboration will enable candidates can apply and make payments online, have their certificates delivered to them in any State of Nigeria irrespective of where they sat the examination.
“Today, I am happy to report that, beginning with the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2020-First Series, the collection of certificates would be based on requests by candidates online via the Electronic Certificate Management System platform. In order for this to be done seamlessly, we have entered into a partnership with the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST),” he said.

He noted that the service is for private candidates as school candidates will have to pick theirs in the school they sat the examination.

“It has been tested and it went well, NIPOST Picks the certificate and delivers to the nearest WAEC office at the candidate’s location.”

“If a candidate who resides in Zamfara sat the examination in Enugu, he/she doesn’t need to travel back to Enugu for collection of certificate as NIPOST will deliver the certificate in the candidates state as requested,” he said.
