FGN Power Company (FGNPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening technical capacity and promoting innovation in Nigeria’s power sector through its support for the Visiola Foundation’s 2026 STEM Summer Camp.

The Visiola Foundation is a non-profit organisation that educates, trains, and mentors African girls and young women from underserved communities across Africa.

The week-long programme, which culminated in a closing competition in Abuja, provided students with practical exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Participants designed and built renewable energy prototypes and presented their solutions to a panel of judges, demonstrating their understanding of technology, problem-solving and innovation.

As part of FGNPC’s support for the initiative, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FGN Power Company, Mr. Kenny Anuwe served as Chief Judge at the closing competition.

He evaluated student projects based on technical understanding, quality of presentation, creativity, usefulness and potential impact, according to a statement by Magdalene Abang, Communications Lead, FGN Power Company.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Kenny Anuwe emphasised the importance of investing in young Nigerians as part of efforts to build the technical capacity required to transform the nation’s power sector.

He stated : “The Federal Government cannot build the power sector alone; it requires the support of key public and private sector partners. This is why we remain open to partnerships with organisations such as the Visiola Foundation, which help expand capacity-building opportunities. This commitment is also reflected in FGNPC’s initiatives, including the Siemens Energy Education & Development (SEED) and the Power Training Institute (PTI) workstream, both designed to strengthen engineers’ capacity in power system simulation, network studies and system planning.

The role of the private sector, non-governmental organisations and financiers remains critical. FGNPC will continue to collaborate with organisations like the Visiola Foundation, and we commend the meaningful work and impact they have delivered over the years.”

He noted that the objectives of the STEM Summer Camp closely align with FGNPC’s commitment to developing the next generation of engineers, scientists, innovators and energy professionals.

The students were assessed on their ability to identify renewable energy challenges, develop functional solutions, explain t he technology behind their prototypes and demonstrate the potential impact of their ideas.

FGNPC commended the Visiola Foundation for creating a platform that encourages young Nigerians to apply STEM knowledge to real-world challenges and develop practical solutions to some of the country’s most pressing needs.

The Company believes that early investment in STEM education is critical to building a pipeline of future talent capable of supporting Nigeria’s energy transition and the long-term development of a more reliable, sustainable and efficient power sector.

FGN Power Company (FGNPC) is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) mandated to implement the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). FGNPC’s mission is to address infrastructural gaps by investing in end-to-end solutions that will deliver reliable, incremental energy to customers in Nigeria.
