Wealth management institution, AXA Mansard Investments Limited, has urged Nigerians to re-evaluate their perception of social protection, positing that disciplined financial planning and structured wealth accumulation represent the most enduring forms of safeguarding families and driving macro-level economic resilience.
The Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Investments Limited, Mr. Deji Tunde-Anjous, made this call during the formal unveiling of the group’s “Culture of Care” campaign in Lagos, noting that true care extends far beyond meeting the immediate, daily financial obligations of dependents.
Tunde-Anjous observed that while traditional Nigerian communal values encourage individuals to sacrifice resources to uplift extended family members, educate children, and support dependents, many breadwinners inadvertently compromise their personal retirement and asset-building journeys in the process.
To insulate households against macroeconomic volatility, he argued that financial literacy, disciplined savings, and early capital deployment into structured investment vehicles must become integral components of family care.
“Financial security is one of the most powerful forms of protection,” Tunde-Anjous said. “It allows people to face uncertainty with greater confidence, pursue opportunities with courage, and build futures that are not defined by fear or vulnerability.”
He noted that although everyday acts of familial support reflect cultural empathy, they also highlight a critical vulnerability in the absence of long-term balance sheet preparation.
“Saving, investing, planning for retirement, building wealth, and preparing for future responsibilities are all tangible acts of care. They are ways people protect not only themselves, but also the people who depend on them over the long haul,” he explained.
Framing financial stability within the broader economic context, the investment chief noted that resilient households directly translate to a stable national economy.
According to him, families with secure asset bases are far better equipped to withstand systemic inflation, fund higher education, seed entrepreneurial ventures, and contribute consistently to national productivity without falling into sudden financial distress.
“A prosperous nation is built on financially secure people,” he stressed. “When individuals have the tools and confidence to prepare for the future, they make sounder financial decisions, seize market opportunities, and contribute more meaningfully to broader economic growth.”
Tunde-Anjous maintained that while healthcare and conventional underwriting provide essential buffers against operational and physical risks, asset management and wealth preservation provide the runway needed for sustainable household prosperity.
He reiterated the firm’s commitment to driving long-term investment culture, wealth preservation, and pension planning, emphasizing that the overarching goal of the initiative is to shift public perception toward early financial defense.
“The deepest expression of care is ensuring that the people we love, and the futures we are building, remain protected long after today’s challenges have passed. When more Nigerians are financially secure, families become stronger, communities become more resilient, and the nation becomes more prosperous,” Tunde-Anjous concluded.
