The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored power transmission to Kaduna state following the suspension of the five- day warning strike embarked by the organised labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
TCN had on Sunday morning alerted the nation that it was compelled by NLC ahead of the commencement of the strike Monday, to switch off bulk electricity supply to Kaduna state.
However, Wednesday evening, NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba announced the suspension of the three-day old strike to pave way for mediation by the Federal Government.
Consequently, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, said late night that TCN “has restored power supply on all its 33kV feeders that KAEDCO had indicated readiness to pick supply from.
She said the 33kV feeders include :
Mogadishu, Abakwa, Naf base, Ungwa Dosa,Turunku, AREWA, Airport, Kinkinau , Narayi and Independence feeders; adding that
the Jaji and Rigasa feeders had also been energized while Olam, PAN and UNTL are about to be energized.
Further, Mrs Mbah explained that the Waterworks feeder was energized but tripped on fault on the side of KAEDCO.
She assured that TCN would continue to gradually restore supply on the other feeders as soon as KAEDCO indicates readiness to take supply.
It would be recalled by OPTIMUM TIMES on Sunday that Mrs Mbah said “TCN had resisted intense pressure from the Union yesterday, demanding that all 33kV feeders radiating from our substations within Kaduna State be switched off.
“Regrettably, the Union functionaries returned today with similar demands amid palpable threats that could escalate and jeopardize national grid security. It was during this morning’s encounter that the System Operators were forced to shut down the 33kV feeders from 6:36Hrs this morning.
“Before this, KAEDCO had earlier shut down its 11kV feeders, which it started de-loading from 3 am this morning.
“TCN is mindful of the inconveniences this would cause electricity customers within the state and pray for a peaceful resolution between the parties, to enable the restoration of bulk power supply to our substations for Kaduna Disco to take to its electricity customers. Please bear with us.”
