The Commissioner for Insurance and CEO of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, alongside the President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, has applauded the Insurance Meets Tech (IMT) conference for its impact in driving digital innovation within Nigeria’s insurance industry.
Both industry leaders gave their commendations during the opening ceremony of the maiden CIIN Insurance Awareness Week, held on Monday, June 30, 2025, in Lagos. The event, themed “Insurance for All: Securing Nigeria’s Future,” convened policymakers, industry professionals, technology experts, and other stakeholders to chart the course for the future of insurance in the country.
Mrs. Ilori praised IMT for its consistency in fostering meaningful discourse and collaborative showcases, which she said have positioned technology as a core component of reform efforts in the insurance space.
“The work being done by Insurance Meets Tech is reshaping how our industry operates breaking traditional boundaries and fostering innovation, especially among young, tech-savvy Nigerians,” Ilori said. “This initiative gives our sector a competitive edge, boosts acceptance, and drives sustainable impact across the economy.”
Echoing her remarks, NAICOM boss Mr. Omosehin emphasized the necessity of technology in achieving broader insurance penetration and public trust.
“Digital innovation is no longer optional, it is central to the relevance and growth of insurance in Nigeria,” he said. “Platforms like Insurance Meets Tech are not just spaces for dialogue; they are engines of disruption, modernising how we engage the insuring public. I commend the Convener for this bold, disruptive initiative and call on all stakeholders to embrace technology as a means of deepening inclusion.”
In response, IMT Convener Odion Aleobua expressed gratitude for the recognition from the nation’s top insurance officials.
“We are honoured by the endorsement from Commissioner Omosehin and CIIN President Ilori,” Aleobua said. “Their support reflects a shared vision to build a tech-enabled, inclusive insurance ecosystem that serves every Nigerian. This is a testament to what’s possible when regulators, practitioners, and technologists work together.”
The CIIN Insurance Awareness Week recently concluded aimed at deepening public understanding and appreciation of insurance, especially in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape.
