The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun SAN NPOM has charged the Lagos State University (LASU) School of Agriculture, Epe Campus not to relent on its effort on organic farming which he described as the way to go in the country.
He said the University will continue to support the school of Agriculture to be able to supply all the foods needed to feed people of Lagos State.
Fagbohun made the charge at a special lecture recently organized by the School of Agriculture, Epe Campus with theme ‘Effective Leadership for Sustainable Academic Excellence and Productivity in the University System’
The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Garba Hamidu Sharubtu commended Lagos State University Management for creating an enabling environment and very conducive academic atmosphere for the school of Agriculture.
He said “I have gone round the Campus and the School of Agriculture, the environment is very conducive for learning and has all the facilities of a full fledge University of Agriculture. I am very happy with what I saw.”
Expressing his satisfaction with its works Sharubtu promised to ensure that the Research Institutes in the country have a strong collaboration with the School of Agriculture to improve capacity building which the Minister of Agriculture is craving for in the country.
The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Steve Afolami while delivering his lecture on the topic charged leaders to show that they understand the purpose of leadership and guide the organisation they are leading to the right destination.
Furthermore, He said that leaders must sustain academic excellence, avoid favoritism and lack of uniform standard in recruitment, appointment and promotion of people to positions. Round poles must be put in round holes.
In conclusion, He said funding is very key in the University System to meet it’s expectations to contribute to societal growth and development. He opined that the University System is run under the best practices which requires excellence, sanity and peace. He later commended the students for showing up in their large numbers for the lectures.
Also speaking, the former Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Professor Olufemi Olaiya Balogun, in his goodwill message said he was more than happy with the transformation that has taken place in the School of Agriculture which has surpassed the recommendations of his committee on the establishment of the School.
He appreciated the Management staff and students for the feat recorded when the school was given full-time accreditation the first time it was presented for accreditation.
He implored them to sustain good job and requested the first set of students that will be graduating this year in the University to come back to add value to the university.
