The Jigawa state Command of the Nigeria Police has doled out about N42 million to the families of its deceased officers, who died in the line of duties.
Presenting the cheques to 24 next of kins to the affected beneficiaries at the command headquarters in Dutse on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi said the gesture was in line with the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun towards enhancing the welfare of the police personnel.
The police chief noted that the gesture was part of his Group Life Assurance Scheme to boost the morale of the officers and men of the force to enable them to contribute maximally to the security of the country.
“These cheques, while a token of our immense gratitude, represent our commitment to your wellbeing. We understand that no amount of money can replace your loved ones, but we hope it can ease some of of the burdens you face and provide the foundation for the future.
“The road ahead will be challenging, but remember that you’re not alone. We, the police family are here to support you every step of the way. We’ll honour the memory of your beloved ones by carrying their torch by continuing their fight for justice and safety.
“Let their sacrifice be a call to action, a reminder of all the values we hold dear; courage, compassion and constant dedication to serving our communities. Your sacrifice is not in vain as it is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the police force, a beacon of hope that shine even in the darkest of times as you inspire us to be better, to serve with courage, and never to back down in the face of adversity.”
He added: “These officers were not just colleagues, they were brothers and sisters in the blue, standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the face of danger, safeguarding our communities with firm resolve. They ran towards the flames when others ran away. They faced down threats to protect the vulnerable. They gave their lives in the noble pursuit of keeping us safe.
“Please know that you’re not alone in your grieve. The entire police family stands with you, offering immense support and a shoulder to lean on. We’re here to help you navigate this difficult times to ensure that the sacrifices of your loved ones are never forgotten.
” The bravery of the officers will forever be etched in our hearts. They ran towards danger when others cowered and their actions made the difference. They saved lives, protect communities and upheld the law with decisive honour.”
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the management for coming to their aid and appealed to the Command to continue to remember to their loved ones.
