Jigawa Police Nab 333 Suspects For Sundry Offences Including Almajiri Islamic School Teacher For Sodomy

Operatives of the Jigawa state Police Command have arrested a total of 333 suspects for various offences, including an Almajiri Islamic school teacher alleged of sodomising not fewer than 12 of his pupils in the second quarter of this year.

Other offences range from armed robbery, illegal possession of fire arms and other dangerous weapons; cattle rustling, vandalisation of critical national assets, child abuse/rape and receipt of stolen items among others.

Briefing reporters while parading some of the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Dutse on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi said the suspects were picked up in various locations across the state, following useful and credible information from the members of the public, which led to their arrests.

Giving the breakdown of the arrested suspects, the police chief said, while some of the suspects have been charged to court, some of them were still being investigated, noting that as soon as investigations have been completed, the remaining would also be changed to court.

Top on the chart of the arrested suspects included 101 drugs barons/users followed by 83 culpable homicides suspects, 58 suspected thieves, 39 rapists, 25 suspected armed robbers, 18 vandals and three fraudsters.

Among the items recovered during the raids, according to the commissioner, included two fabricated pistols, two dane guns, five live ammunition one live pump action, 14 motorcycles, two motor vehicles, one tricycle, six rustled cows, large quantities of vandalised cable/armoured wire, live pump action cartridges.

Other recovered items included pieces of vandalised transformer, 12 pieces of mobile phones, 32 pieces of counterfeited US Dollars of 1000, N792,000 cash, 32 inch plasma television set, a laptop computer, Firman Generator as well as a submersible pumping
machine and three sheep.

Also impounded were assorted prohibited drugs such as dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 4 and half block, and 322
wraps, 83 soak and die, 4 packets of rubber solutions, 282 pieces, 73 tramadol, 190 exol, D 339 as well as 31 tablets of Pregabalin.

Among the notable suspects was an Almajiri Islamic school teacher, who was arrested from for allegedly sodomising not fewer than 12 of his pupils.

According to the CP, the suspect, Yusufa Yunusa, 23, was picked up by the Gwaram Divisional Police Headquarters, following complaints that Yunusa had formed the habit of taking some of his pupils out to different locations and forcing them to massage his manhood, thereafter suck it in the process, then compels them to swallow his sperm.

“On receipt of this very unfortunate and ugly report, detectives attached to the Division swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspect. He was brought to the Division for preliminary investigation. Later the suspect was to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID) Dutse for a discreet investigation.

“On investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence, so, he would soon be charged to court.”

Speaking to newsmen later, Yunusa admitted commiting the offence and blamed the devil for the crime.

Besides, he claimed that he was once a victim of the same offence, when he was young as an Almajiri pupil sent from the neighbouring state, Bauchi, when he was sent to the same Gwaram.

He blamed the devil for his actions, noting that he had realised his mistakes and pleaded for forgiveness.
