Towards achieving sustainable and inclusive power supply in Nigeria, the Federal government has engaged Japan in bilateral energy partnerships.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu led Nigeria’s power stakeholders to Japan recently on a three-day visit facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the aims to understudy Japan’s Policy and Evolution of Japan’s Power Sector, Electricity Management and System Operations, and Energy Trading and Market Operations.

Some of the key outcomes include the identification and advancement of key initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.

It also include short-term grid reliability measures as discussions focused on immediate steps that Nigeria can implement to enhance national grid stability and resilience, leveraging Japan’s expertise in grid operations and maintenance.

The visit further advanced JICA’s potential co-financing support for the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) Project being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

This initiative is set to expand energy access in rural and underserved communities, stimulating economic growth and sustainable development.

Under this, the engagements facilitated long-term collaboration and investment opportunities as it laid a strong foundation for future collaboration between Nigeria and Japan, unlocking opportunities for technology transfer, capacity building, and investments in Nigeria’s energy.
