Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has vowed to institute a probe into the claims of achievements of his Commissioner for Health and Social Development Dr. Muhammad Abdullahi Kainuwa and the Director-General of the Jigawa State Youths Empowerment Agency, Dr. Habib Kanya.
The incident occured on Sunday during the citizens’ engagement programme organized by the state government where the two officials’ claims of achievements were vehemently disputed by the public.
The drama unfolded at the “Citizens’ Engagement Programme” held at the Birnin Kudu township Stadium in Birnin Kudu local government, where the commissioner’s and empowerment agency’s boss presentations was met with a chorus of disapproval
Tagged “Gwamnati da Jama’a’ literally means Government and the People” the forum is part of the state government efforts aimed at institutionalizing openness, transparency and accountability in governance across the state.
The drama started unfolding when, in a united voice the public disapproval of the claims of the two officials started outlining the achievements recorded by the state government in Birnin Kudu local government area of the state.
Apart from the duo, other commissioners that addressed the audience at the forum included those of Works and Transport, Engr. Gambo Shuaibu Malam, Higher Education Science and Technology, Prof. Isa Yusuf Chamo and Special Duties Auwalul Danladi Sankara among others.
The audience openly disputed Kainuwa’s claims of projects executed in the health sector in the council, forcing him to abandon his speech and started defending himself before the dignitaries including the governor and two past governors of the state, including the current Defence Minister.
At every step, the commissioner’s claims were met with “Kariya ne’ bayi ba”, meaning it is a lie, it was not done, to the surprise of many dignatories, who could not hide their disappointment as the drama unfolded.
Similarly, the Director-General Kanya also faced a barrage of shouting of no, when he attempted to highlight his agency’s achievements, where they questioned the validity of his statements.
In response to the public’s outcry, an obviously embarrassed Namadi assured the people that his administration would get to the bottom of the matter by probing the claims by the top officials of the state government and assured them that the government would take necessary steps to bring anybody found wanting to order.
He vowed to institute a probe to uncover the truth behind the disputed claims, emphasizing that his administration’s priority is to ensure transparency and accountability.
According to him, “This is the essence of this programne, it is intended to bring government’ closer to the people, to ensure that every claim made by us is
“We have listened to what the people of Birnin Kudu have said here and I can assure you that we’ll take action. First we will
He said the probe is expected to shed light on the accuracy of the commissioner’s and agency head’s claims, providing a clearer picture of the state’s development progress.
The governor described the programme as very good because it will ensure that not only will the government be held accountable to the people but it would also give the people to engage directly with the government in order to put their views across to the government.
The governor also highlighted his administration’s commitment to executing projects that align with the Jigawa citizens’ online 12-point agenda.
