Presidential candidate of
the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore and his associates are reportedly threatening and blackmailing the owner Tawakalitu Restaurant, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Ms. Miriam Bakare Anike, to release to him CCTV footage of the alleged attack on him and his supporters.
The restaurant owner has, however, reportedly told the politician that, prior to the incident, the CCTV was bad and was on the verge of being fixed.
Recall that, Sowore had recently alleged that he was on October 30, 2026, attacked and kidnapped by unknown persons.
He later claimed that those persons were sponsored by the Ekiti State government. He further accused security agencies of providing his alleged attackers with the logistics.
He has maintained this position on his social media handles as well as on several media platforms.
However, on the heels of Sowore’s allegations, the Nigerian Police Force released a statement where it clarified the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the Police, the issue was triggered by an “altercation” in the restaurant.
The Police confirmed that it evacuated Sowore and some of his injured supporters to its hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment. Sowore also confirmed that he and his injured supporters were treated at the police facility. The police dispelled rumors of his alleged abduction, saying that they arrested some suspects who are aiding the investigation process.
A source close to the AAC presidential candidate revealed that the politician has resolved to continue blackmailing the restaurant owner and security agencies to release the CCTV footage and other shreds of evidence relevant to the ongoing investigation, a move alien to security investigations world-wide.
“Sowore has been making several attempts to coarse the proprietress of Tawakalitu Restaurant to release the footage and other recordings of the incident by her workers to him.
He has severally threatened to ‘destroy’ her restaurant business if she fails to oblige him, to which the lady has maintained that the CCTV was faulty before the incident,” the source declared.
