Breaking News: Tragedy As Three Girls Drown In Jigawa Local Pond

The Jigawa state Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) have confirmed the drowning of three girls at a pond in Kaugama local government council of the state.

Reports from the area indicated that the incident occurred at about 11:00 am on Monday, when the three girls went to a nearby pond about three hundred meters away from the village to wash their clothes.

It would recalled that a teenager, had lost his life in a similar pattern, last week Saturday, while attempting to rescue his drowning cow in Buji local government area of the state.

A confirmation statement by the spokesman of them NSCDC in the state, Adamu Shehu on Monday said the three girls namely:Maryam Salisu 10 Bahayura Lawan 10 and Lawisa Sule 8 have drowned at a local pond in Faskarau, Jae Ward.

Shehu added that the NSCDC Divisional Officer, of the area confirmed that they received a distress call at around 11:10am and rushed to the scene with the disaster management officers for a rescue mission.

“Together with the people of the community, they were able to recover the bodies of the three young girls after about 30 minutes of search and rescue mission.

“Investigation later revealed that the girls after washing their clothes, decided to take a bath at the pond which eventually led to their death.

“Immediately the bodies were recovered, they were rushed to the General Hospital Kaugama, where they were certified dead and their remains were handed over to their parents, who have already buried them according to Islamic rites.”

The statement recalled similar incident about 20 years ago, where three girls lost their lives in the pond.

The statement quoted the State Commandant of the NSCDC Musa Mala as commiserating with the families of the deceased and enjoined parents to look after their wards “especially at this moment were ponds and rivers are flooded.’
