Again, another drowning incident has been reported, this time, in Buji local government in Jigawa state involving a 10-year-old boy in a local pond where he went for swimming.
Identified as Sule Ya’u of Lelan Kudu, the incident has increased the number of people, who have lost their lives in local ponds, connected to the rising surge of waters as a result of the flooding being experienced in many local government areas across the state.
The state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) confirmed the latest drowning case on Sunday, in a statement by it’s spokesman, Adamu Shehu.
Shehu explained that the latest incident occurred on Saturday when Ya’u went for swimming along with friends in the morning around 11. 30 am but disappeared in the water.
“His body was later recovered after two hours of search and rescue operations in the flooded pond by local divers.
“On reaching to the hospital, he was certified dead by a medical personnel and was handed over to his parents for proper burial.”
He quoted the state Commandant, Musa Mala as saying that the Command would not relent in admonishing parents not allow their wards to be going for swimming in the flooded ponds, rivers and surface waters.
