The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disagreed with the Association of Nigeria Electricity Distributors (ANED) over affirmation of supplying two months’ free electricity to consumers nationwide by electricity Distribution Companies.

AEDC contended that it has neither been informed of it nor the policy been approved by the government apart from being a mere proposal.

Consequently, AEDC urged electricity consumers within its franchise areas: FCT, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi States to continue to pay their electricity bills.

ANED, the umbrella association of DisCos had in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Sunday Odunta claimed that DisCos including AEDC have agreed and ready to supply two months’ free electricity as part of its sacrifice and palliative measure over the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the AEDC Management in a statement Thursday, “As one of the DisCos, we welcome the different proposed policy instruments including that of the leadership of the National Assembly aimed at providing palliatives to cushion the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic.

“It is, however, important for our customers to know that at the moment, no decision about it has been communicated to us. We therefore urge customers to continue to support the operations of the DisCos by paying their electricity bill.

“If and when the decision is made, customers will be informed accordingly including the modalities for implementing the decision.

“While we are waiting for the final decision and the release of the modalities, we once again appeal to our beloved customers to continue to pay their bills as this is the only way the sector can receive money to procure spares and sustain service.

“Finally, we like to use this opportunity to remind our customers that information about our online payment channels are available on our website – www.abujaelectricity.com.”
