Woman, 40, Sets Self Ablaze In Jigawa Over Sudden Divorce

The police in Jigawa has confirmed the death of a 40-year-old woman, one Fatsuma Bagobiri, reportedly as a result of depression resulting from her divorce some months earlier.

The incident which took place in Garun Malam community in Guri local government area, North Eastern Jigawa where the woman reportedly poured petrol on her body, set herself ablaze and got burnt beyond recognition at the outskirt of the village.

A statement by the spokesperson of the State Command, DSP Lawan Shishu Adam said, “Following receipt of the unflattering report, a squad of officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters raced to the scene of crime, verified the incident, took the charred body to the hospital, and later released the corpse to the family for burial.

“However, a preliminary investigation found that the deceased experienced depression a few months following her husband’s divorce.”

The statement quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Tijani Abdullahi as advising the citizens and residents to always submit their affairs to Almighty Allah, pray for blessings, and seek guidance from their elders on any complex matters, particularly, on marriage.
