WAEC Withholds 180, 205 Results For Examination Malpractices By Candidates

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld a total of 180,205 results of candidates, representing 11.33 percent of the total number of 1,590,173 candidates who sat the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Also, out of 1,590,173 candidates that sat the 2019 WASSCE, the west African Examination Council announced the release of1,468,071 results representing 92.32percent.

The Head, Nigerian National Office of West African Examination Council (WAEC), Mr. Olu Adenipekun disclosed this Today during a press conference at the council’s office in Lagos.

According to Odenipekun, 180,205 candidates, representing 11.33 percent of the total number of candidates who sat the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice while 122,102 candidates representing 7.68percent have a few of their subjects still being processed.

However, he stated that efforts are being made to speedily complete the processing and all the affected candidates will get their results fully processed and released subsequently.

Reacting to the cases of malpractice, he assured that they are under investigation and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due cause “the committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools.”

“1,309,570 candidates representing 82.35percent obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects with or without English Language while 1,020,519 candidates representing 64.18percent obtained credits and above in minimum of five subjects including English and Mathematics of which 507,862 representing 49.77percent were male while 512,657 representing 50.23percent were female,” he said”

Comparing 2018 to 2019, he stated that the percentage of candidates that obtained credits and above in minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics in the WASSCR for school candidats, 2018 were 50percent.

“The details of the results are already available online, and candidates who sat the examination and who have fulfilled their financial obligations to the council are free to check the details of their performance on the council’s results website: www.waecdirect.com ” he said.

Furthermore, he said that the certificates of candidates whose results have been fully processed and released will be ready within the next 90days from today.
