WAEC Releases 91, 225 Results, Withholds 9, 457 For Examination Malpractice

Out of 94,884 candidates who sat the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released a total of 91,225 results representing 94.14percent while 3,659 representing 3.86percent have a few subjects still being processed.

The Head, Nigeria National Office, WAEC, Mr. Olu I. Adenipekun who disclosed this Today in Lagos stated that 9,457 candidates representing 9.74percent were involved in one form of examination malpractice or the other.

According to the HNO, 49,679 candidates representing 52.36 of the candidates obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five subjects with or without English Language and/or Mathematics out of which 24,354 were male and 25,325 were female representing 49.02percent and 50.98percent respectively.

He stated that 33,304 candidates representing 35.10percent obtained credits and above in minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics, out of which 16,431 were male and 16,873 were female representing 49.34percent and 50.66percent respectively.

On the cases of examination malpractice, he assured that the cases will be presented to the appropriate committee of council and the decision of the council on their will be communicated to the affected candidates within the shortest possible time.

Giving a breakdown of the candidates, he stated “out of 94,884 candidates, 110 candidates were with varying degrees of special needs and all were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination”

“The results of the candidates with special needs have been fully processed and released along with those of other candidates,” he assured.

“Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination in Nigeria, 47,237 we’re male while 47, 647 were female, representing 49.78percent and 50.22percent respectively,” he stated.

It would be recalled that the WestAfrican Examination Council announced the first series of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) registration for private candidates commenced Tuesday, October 15 and ended December 31, 2019.
