South African healthcare giant Discovery Health has rebranded its African employer health insurance business, Vitality Health International, as Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions, while reaffirming its strategic partnership with Leadway Health HMO to strengthen healthcare offerings for employers in Nigeria.
The rebranding marks a major strategic transition for the company as it seeks to consolidate its health insurance, wellness, and managed healthcare capabilities under a unified platform tailored to Africa’s evolving healthcare landscape.
Under the new structure, Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions will continue its collaboration with Leadway Health HMO, a partnership that began in 2022 and has supported the company’s expansion within Nigeria’s corporate healthcare market.
The companies said the renewed partnership would enable them to deliver more seamless and locally relevant healthcare solutions for employers and employees while leveraging Discovery Health’s global healthcare administration expertise and Leadway’s strong market presence in Nigeria.
Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions, Emma Knox, said the transition reflects the company’s broader ambition to expand healthcare solutions across Africa while maintaining its commitment to improving health outcomes.
“While our name is changing, our commitment to our clients and to our core purpose namely, to make people healthier and to enhance and protect their lives remains the same,” she said.
According to Knox, the rebranded platform would allow the company to broaden its healthcare offerings beyond traditional insurance by introducing more integrated healthcare administration and wellness solutions for employers.
She added that the partnership with Leadway Health HMO has played a critical role in strengthening the company’s operations and market relevance in Nigeria.
“Our partnership with Leadway Health has supported our expansion in Nigeria and strengthened our ability to deliver meaningful health insurance solutions at scale. Together, we are focused on improving health outcomes and contributing to healthier societies,” she stated.
Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of Leadway Health HMO, Tokunbo Alli, described the continued collaboration as a reflection of the shared commitment of both organisations to improving healthcare access and quality for Nigerian employers and workers.

The company currently provides healthcare administration and managed care services to over 3.6 million members across Africa and operates one of the continent’s largest integrated healthcare administration systems.
