UniAbuja Governing Council Appoints  Shiva Rae M’ovul-Kondoun As New Bursar

The Governing Council of the University of Abuja has approved the appointment of Mrs Shiva Rae M’ovul-Kondoun as the new Bursar of the Institution.

A statement signed by the acting vice-chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, said M’ovul-Kondoun was appointed following the approval of the University Governing Council at its 70th Extra-Ordinary meeting held on Thursday 24th October, 2024.  

The appointment is for a single term of five (5) years.

Shiva Rae M’ovul-Kondoun hails from Logo local Government Area of Benue State. She attended Queen of Rosary Secondary School, Gboko, where she had  WAEC/GCE O’ levels in 1983, and the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, for a Diploma in Accounting in 1987.  

M’ovul-Kondoun proceeded to the University of Benin where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree  in Accounting in 1997; and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Benue State University, Makurdi, in 2005. 

She is currently studying for a PhD in Accounting and Finance at the Benue State University.

M’ovul-Kondoun has also attended several national and international professional trainings and workshops including a seminar on “Leadership, Ethics and Corporate Governance” organised by the Graduate School of Public Affairs and, the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 2013; International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) Conference, United Kingdom (May 2011); World Congress of Accountants (WCOA), Rome, Italy, in (2014); as well as other WCOA Conferences in Sydney, Australia (2018) and Mumbai, India (2022).

She  has also attended numerous national conferences and the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programmes of the accounting professional bodies.

The new bursar joined the Benue State University as Accountant I in 2001 and rose to the rank of Deputy Bursar in 2012.

She has held many positions in the course of her career, including acting Bursar of Benue State University (January-August 2021); member, ANAN Governing Council Committee on International Relations and Linkages (2015-2019); member, Board of Trustee, Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (CIFCFEN)(2019-date); chairman, Committee to Review Benue State University Procurement manual (March 2021), among many others.

She is the currently the National chairman of the Professional Women Accountants in Nigeria (PROWAN).

Before her appointment, M’ovul-Kondoun was the Deputy Bursar, Budget and Expenditure Control Division of the Benue State University, Makurdi. 

She is a fellow of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (FCNA) (2019); and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (CIFCFEN) (2021). 

She is also a member of Associate Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI) (2019); and a registered Professional Accountant: Financial Reporting Council (FRC) (2012).
