It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of appreciation that I extend to you all a very warm welcome to the commissioning of the new Gagarawa 2x60MVA, 132/33kV Transmission Substation here in Jigawa State.
I am sincerely gladdened by your presence, despite your very busy schedules. It is a show of solidarity and recognition of the importance of this remarkable project which is a part of the several projects TCN is currently executing as it works towards further expanding the capacity of the nation’s transmission grid.
Electricity we all know, is a very important aspect of our national development and with that understanding TCN has continued to execute projects aimed at expanding the transmission network by investing in critical transmission lines and substations projects across the country.
This event being the first official project commissioning ceremony by this new TCN Management after my assumption of office a few months ago presents a very good opportunity for me to introduce our new roadmap in TCN, the Nigeria Electricity Grid
Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Program (NEGMERP). This is a well thought out Program with the objective of delivering quality bulk electricity supply to Nigerians while giving equal attention and priority to all Transmission Lines and Substation Projects across the length and breadth of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and at the same time not forgetting our major business as Grid Managers which is to efficiently operate and maintain existing facilities. This program which is anchored on the Presidential Power Initiative have the following major components:
All FGN funded projects.
All International Donor funded projects.
All Internally Generated Revenue projects.
The Siemens intervention projects.
All In-house projects and Service Level Improvement projects.
*It also worthy of note that this administration pays great attention to improving our operations in terms of prioritizing and upgrading our Independent System Operation (ISO) Sector via SCADA and Communication equipment upgrades. Our National Control Centers, Regional Control Centers and Substation Control Rooms upgrade and Rehabilitation are all part of the NEGMERP Program.
All this programs are going to be driven by our staff hence staff welfare is top on our priority as well.
This Gagarawa Transmission Substation project is one of the several ongoing projects under TCN that was abandoned at a very advanced stage of completion by the last administration for no good Engineering or Project Management reason. We thank God that we are commissioning it for use today and it will take care of suppressed load in
Gagarawa and environs by delivering<more bulk electricity to some load centers of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCo), for onward transmission to consumers in Jigawa State and environs. With the commissioning of this project today, the following towns and areas that will have considerable improvement in their power supply; Gagarawa LGA, Taura LGA, Rigim LGA, Gumel LGA and Migo LGA.
May I seize this opportunity to thank His Excellency, President Muhammad Buhari for his avowed commitment towards addressing power sector challenges in the country and the Hon. Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman for his determination to ensure that this administration’s goal for the power sector is achieved.
I also would like to appreciate the good people and the Executive Governor of Jigawa State for your support and cooperation during the course of this project, of particular reference is the construction of the road leading to this Substation.
My sincere appreciation also goes to the EPC Contractor that executed this project Messrs Power Control and Appliances. Thank you for delivering this project on schedule and to specification despite all the challenges.
For us at TCN, it is a new beginning as today’s event marks another milestone in our collective resolve to take the Nigerian power sector to the next level of efficiency and effectiveness. It is also an indication that a government owned company such as TCN can, and is taking giant strides in expanding its capacity to make bulk electricity more readily available.
Your Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, thank you for making out time to attend the commissioning of the Gagarawa Substation project.
Once again, I welcome you all to this commissioning ceremony. We pledge to continue to do our best to increase capacity in underserved areas as well as extend the transmission grid to unserved areas, to ensure we efficiently and effectively move bulk electricity everywhere in Nigeria.
We thank God for gathering us safely here today, and pray for journey mercies as well when we shall be going back to our various destinations. God bless you all, God bless Nigeria.
