The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reassured that its engineers and contractor, Shangai Electric Company, are working assiduously to restore the 300MVA power transformer shut down by the protective control mechanism at the Lekki Transmission Sub-Station on the 24th of October, 2024.
TCN explained that the protective control triggered the shutdown of the transformer when it started making serious arching sounds with smoke coming out from the red phase of 132kV secondary power cable.
The Aja maintenance crew, subsequently, isolated the power cables from the transformer to enable the system operators to restore the primary side of the transformer.
TCN said that to ensure it reduce downtime on the transformer, it diverted the main power cable meant for the proposed TR2-300MVA, 330/132/33kV transformer to ensure the prompt repair of the existing 300MVA ppwer transformer.
It stressed that the Shangai Electric Company (contractors) are working with TCN engineers to expedite repairs.
TCN expressed regrets for every inconvenience this has caused electricity consumers within the affected areas and appealed for patience from affected customers.
