Govenor Umar Namadi of Jigawa state has appealed to the people of the state to always prioritize their safety during emergencies and avoid gathering at accident sites to prevent further tragedies.

The governor’s appeal which was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel in Dutse last night came in the wake of the late Tuesday night petrol tanker explosion, which left more than 100 persons dead and over 70 persons injured.

The governor’s admonition is coming against the backdrop of unconfirmed reports last night that the driver of the ill-fated truck had earlier warned the locals who gathered to scoop the fuel to stay away from the scene before he ran away but the people failed to comply

Smiliarly, the Minister of Defence and immediate past governor of the state, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has joined in condoling the government and people of the state over the incident.

Namadi, who had earlier on Wednesday visited the scene of the incident and joined in performing the funeral prayer for the deceased, described the incident as the greatest tragedy that has befallen Jigawa State.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this painful time. We stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones and those injured in this tragic incident,” the governor said.

Governor Namadi also said the state government will cater for treatment of all those injured in the inferno who are now receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state and beyond.

“The government will ensure that the affected families receive the needed assistance as we continue to work on preventing such tragedies in the future.”

According to the latest figures by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), 107 people have so far died in the accident, while 57 have been hospitalised with various degrees of burn.

Badaru, in a statement by his Personal Assitant on Media and Publicity, Mati Ali on Wednesday night described the incident as devastating and devastating and prayed to Allah SWT to grant the deceased rest and the families the fortitude to hear the losses.

According to the minister, “The devastating incident, which occurred last Tuesday night, claimed the lives of more then 90 people and left over 50 others injured is unfortunate.”

He expressed his deep sadness and sympathized with the families of the victims.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed precious lives and left many injured. My heart goes out to the people of Jigawa State during this difficult time. I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may Almighty God grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May the injured recover quickly and fully”.
