The 2019 Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that spending N1.2 million on about 50,000 LASU students which sum up to N60 billion annually is doable adding that if he is elected, his administration will provide free Wi-Fi facility at the Lagos State University (LASU).

Sanwo-Olu said this on Thursday at the special Lecture to Commemorate the official opening of the 500-seater Aderemi Makanjuola Ultra Modern Lecture Theatre donated to LASU by the Caverton Offshore Group Chairman, Aderemi Makanjuola to mark his 70th anniversary.

The lecture which was delivered by a Professor of International Law and pioneer Vice Chancellor, University of Ado-Ekiti, Akin Oyebode was titled “Town and Gown, Giving in the Age of Scarcity.”

The APC governorship candidate said that the provision of free Wi-Fi at LASU would further advance technological development in the university.

“Spending N1.2 million on about 50,000 LASU students would cost Lagos State N60 billion annually, it is doable.” he said

The call to spend N1.2 million per LASU student was made by Chairman, Governing Council, University of Lagos, Dr Wale Babalakin

Babalakin who also called on the private sector to support Education said there’s still a long way to go.

According to him the staff zone of LASU is totally unacceptable, he urged the private sector to develop the education system for the benefit of all

“your next milestone should be to build a new senate building for the University ” he said

The guest lecturer cited in his lecture though the Lord might love a cheerful giver but no sin is committed by those who have but choose to look the other way.

He described the benefactor’s act as not only done for charity but also done out of empathy

“Nevertheless, it makes a lot of business sence to contribute some quota into societal well-being not just an insurance against frustrations of the underprivileged but also as a reflection of social solidarity and concern for privations of the marginalized.”

Optimum Times had reported earlier that the Lagos State Governor, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the development of 6000 bed hostel in the university

The Governor also assured LASU management that Sanwo-olu would complete all the ongoing projects in the university if elected adding that the party is a government of continuity.

“Whatever structures we have in LASU right now, I hope I will be able to complete them but if I don’t finish them, Mr Sanwo-Olu will finish and also do the staff school” he assured.
