At least 14 suspected swindlers are currently cooling their heels in police custody following a joint security raid at their hideout in Digawa Village, Birnin Kudu LGA of Jigawa state.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday at about 10:00 am following credible intelligence reports about the activities of a syndicate involved in fraudulent practices and other criminal acts in the area.
The joint security operatives comprising police, army, civil defence, DSS, vigilante and Yan bulala in a coordinated intelligence-led operation, carried out a successful raid on a criminal hideout in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, where suspected fraudsters are dominant perpetrating their fraudulent activities.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Shiisu Lawam Adam, who confirmed the development in a late night statement on Thursday said: “During the raid, security personnel arrested 14 male suspects and recovered a cache of incriminating items, including: nine fabricated pistol, 27 dane guns, 37 gun pieces, four motorcycles and 12 pieces of fake USD.
Also recovered were 188 pieces of Central African currency suspected to be fake, a bow and arrow, metals, animal skin file, saw, vice, blower and other criminal charms.
The development came barely 24-hours after the police said that it received an information that, a group of suspected fraudsters from Digawa village in Birnin Kudu LGA invaded Dumus village and attacked the villagers on the pretext that Dumus people were not in support of their fraudulent activities as a result one Isma’il Ibrahim ‘m’ age 60-year-old of same village lost his life while eight others injured.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing thorough investigation, after which all will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
‘This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to safeguarding communities and rooting out criminal elements. The public is encouraged to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly”, said SP Shiisu Lawam Adam.
The Corpse of the victim and injured persons were ferried to Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) Birnin Kudu for autopsy and medical attention respectively.
The police promised that further updates would be provided as investigations were in progress.
