North East: After 45 Days Blackout Hope Brightens For Bulk Power Supply As TCN Replaces Vandalized Towers

After more than 45 days of blackout, hopes of having bulk electricity supply to the North East geopolitical zone have brightened as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has completed the replacement of four transmission towers vandalized by terrorists who also carted away its valuable parts.

The TCN disclosed the cheering news through a statement by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, saying that the rehabilitation and re-stringing of the four vandalized towers along the Jos–Gombe 330kV transmission line supplying bulk power to substations in the Northeast have been completed.

She explained that the re-stringing of conductors was completed Monday, 3rd June, 2024, and contractors had reconnected the jumper on tower 282, making it ready for the transmission of bulk electricity.

Recall that when the vandalized towers were discovered on April 22, 2024. TCN promptly mobilized contractors and TCN supervising engineers to the site of the incident to immediately commence repairs.

The towers vandalised with its valuable parts carted away by terrorists since April 22, 2024 include towers 288, 289 , 290, and 291.

Initially, TCN had promised to complete the repairs and restore supply by May 27, 2024. However, the collapse of the fourth tower during the re-stringing process delayed the completion. The four towers have since been completed, and the line is now ready for bulk power transmission.

Mbah said that the company  appreciates the patience and support of the governors and people in the North Eastern part of the nation during the period of the tower reconstruction work.
