The Lagos State University Management has debunked the recent publication by a blogging site, instablog alleging that a law student of the university died while reading for his forthcoming exam.

The university said non of its student died while reading for examination neither did the Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun SAN ordered the closure of the common room as a result of the incident as reported by a blogging site, Instablog9ja.

Earlier on Monday, Instablog had reported that a Law student of the Lagos State University has allegedly died while reading for his forthcoming exam.

It continued, “the student, identified, as Hilary, was found dead, this morning, inside the Faculty of Law’s common room adding that his death may be linked to excessive night reading and consumption of caffeine-based stimulants that prevent sleep. The V.C of the institution has already ordered the common room locked”.

In a statement made available to OPTIMUM TIMES by the Coordinator, Centre for Information Press and Public Relations, Lagos State University, Mr. Ademola Adekoya described the report as “misleading and fake news.”

It stated “The attention of the Lagos State University Authority has been drawn to a post by popular blogging site, Instablog9ja, which claimed that a certain Hilary, alleged to be a Law Student of Lagos State University allegedly died at the Faculty of Law common room while reading for his examination.”

“On the matter, we hereby state categorically that:

1. No student of the University died reading for examination or on any account whatsoever.

2. It is untrue that the Vice Chancellor ordered the closure of the common room as a result of the said incident.

3. We request that Instablog9ja, the primary source of the fake news do a corrigendum on the story on their platform to set the records straight.”

“We urge our students, parents and the general public to disregard the fake news just as members of the society are advised to contact the University to verify news of this nature before spreading it.” It stated.

Some of the university’s students told our correspondent that nothing of such happened in the university premise today.

A student of the Faculty of Education who wouldn’t want his name to be mentioned told OPTIMUM TIMES “I was there today and nothing of such happened, I think some ‘bad belle’ people are not happy with the kind of peace we are now enjoying in LASU but God pass them.” He said
