Éric Chelle will be unveiled as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles in Abuja on Monday.

The Nigeria Football Federation said the unveiling will be at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, by 11 am.

His unveiling will be coming barely a week after the football body appointed the Franco-Malian as the Super Eagles Head Coach.

Despite concerns over the 47-year-old’s abilities, the NFF president Ibrahim Gusau has thrown his weight behind Chelle.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau said on Sunday in a post on the NFF’s website.

“However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles. The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job.”

The unveiling will also be an opportunity to name Chelle’s assistants. The crew will lead the Super Eagles B team to next month’s African Nations Championship in East Africa.

After that, attention will be shifted to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Super Eagles have started the campaign poorly, languishing in fifth position, four points adrift of the top.

But in March, they have a chance to begin a comeback when they travel to Rwanda before hosting Zimbabwe.

Chelle Mali’s Aiglons to the quarter-finals of last year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where they lost narrowly to eventual winners Cote d’Ivoire.

The new coach won five caps for the Aiglons of Mali and led clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran.

He was Mali’s coach from 2022.
