The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has unfold a four- year Corporate Strategy, 2022-2025, in line with the National Development Plan (NDP) 2021-2025, with the objective of defining a clear roadmap for improving the quantum and quality of statistics in Nigeria.
The Corporate strategy is anchored on seven key pillars, including Organizational and Institutional Development; Infrastructural Development; Human Resource Management and Development; Statistical Advocacy; Data Production; Information Technology and Data Dissemination.
The Statistician General of the Federation, Dr. Simon B. Harry, made the disclosure Thursday while declaring open a two-day retreat for Governing board and management of the NBS.
He explained that the design of the 4-year Strategy was a deliberate arrangement put in place for the development of statistics, to rhyme with the National Development Plan (2021-2025).
According to him, “This is so because NBS has the responsibility of providing the statistics needed for the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of NDP, tracking and monitoring progress being made in achieving the SDGs as well as well as Africa Agenda 2063.
“These are key national and global programs that require comprehensive, timely and reliable statistical information to achieve the desired results.”
Dr. Harry further assured that the NBS has commenced a journey of resuscitation, rejuvenation, consolidation and hope for sustained statistical development in Nigeria.
The Statistician General of the Federation maintained that Because it is a journey that was designed to consolidate the achievement of predecessors, a journey that was inspired and it will motivate the management to work harder.
Saying that it is imperative to take a review , he urged the participants to free to make useful contributions that will help to improve the realisation of NBS mandate.
He further recalled that on assumption of duty as the Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics, it became imperative to roll out a pragmatic agenda called a 3-Point Agenda covering the areas of General Administration and Human Resource Management, Infrastructural Development and Technical Operations.
“These three thematic areas are considered as critical in rejuvenation, revamping, strengthening and repositioning NBS at least in the short run. These, we have been able to achieve up to 70% of the set targets”, he stated.
