The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum, (Downstream), Sabo Muhamnad Nakudu was on Wednesday elected by ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) to represent the Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the 2023.

He was elected at the special Congress of the party held at the Aminu Kano Triangle in the state capital with a total vote of 375. Like Kiyawa, he was also the sole candidate for the primaries

The emergence of the incumbent as senator is coming barely 12 days after the former candidate, Tijani Ibrahim Kiyawa died at the National Hospital Abuja, following complications from kidney-related disease.

Optimum Times recalls that Kiyawa had emerged as the only senatorial candidate for the zone during the state congress of the party conducted last May.

The chairman of the APC senatorial primaries committee from the party’s headquarters in Abuja, Engr Shehu Umar Dange, while declaring the results said a total of 375 delegates were accredited for the primaries, and all voted in favour of Nakudu.

Dange expressed satisfaction with the mature conduct of the voters, which led to the emergence of Nakudu as the candidate. Nakudu, himself was one of the governorship aspirants of the party during the May 27-28 governorship primaries, which was won by the incumbent deputy governor, Namadi Umar.

Nakudu, in his acceptance speech, described his election as the mark of the beginning of the series of success for the party at all levels in the state.

He urged members of the party to close ranks and ensure that the party emerges successful in all the elections scheduled for 2023 abd expressed gratitude to the governor of the state, Badaru Abubakar and the leaderships of the party at both the state and national for efforts in stabilizing the party.
