Leadway Assurance has introduced a gender-focused insurance product known as Plan B Insurance, specifically designed to meet the financial protection needs of Nigerian women across various socioeconomic classes.

The new product, launched in partnership with Wafira Ntaba Limited, offers wide-ranging coverage that includes auto insurance, healthcare, personal accident, fire, burglary, life insurance, and education, all bundled into simplified packages.

Plan B Insurance is available under three tiers; SME, Corporate, and Premier with entry-level premiums starting as low as N26,000 per quarter.

Speaking at the launch, Ayona Aguele Trimnell, the initiator of the Plan B concept, said the idea has been in development for over a decade. “As I began exploring insurance products aimed at women in other countries, I recognised the need for an insurance product that promotes financial inclusion in Nigeria, specifically for women,” she said.

“Women need to understand how insurance can alleviate their worries and the benefits of being insured. I’ve enjoyed these benefits for over 15 years and believe other women should too.”

The product aims to bridge the insurance gap for women-led small and medium-sized enterprises, while also offering lifestyle protection for women generally. Aguele Trimnell emphasised the need for deliberate education efforts to help women understand insurance and its role in fostering financial security. “It has been proven and tested that women do buy insurance, but more women need to be aware and get insured,” she added.

Kike Fischer, Director of Sales, Retail and Partnerships at Leadway Assurance, described Plan B as a comprehensive financial product tailored to promote financial independence among women.

According to her, Leadway has developed strategies to penetrate grassroots communities and socio-economic groups in order to widen access and deepen understanding.

“We are confident that these products will help women of all classes in Nigeria create and protect wealth, recover from economic challenges, pursue their purposes, and lead their families with peace of mind,” Fischer said.

She noted that Leadway’s partnership on the Plan B initiative reinforces its long-standing commitment to financial inclusion and reflects the insurer’s broader objective of building secure futures for women across the country.
