Former United Kingdom Foreign Minister, Baroness Lynda Chalker, is expected to deliver a lecture on “Africa in a Competitive World, Development and Business” at the Lagos State University.
The event titled “An Afternoon with Baroness Lynda Chalker”, will hold on August 15, 2018 at the institution complex.
The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun disclosed these to Journalists.
Profiling Chalker, Fagbohun said “Baroness Lynda Chalker of Wallasey was a Former Minister of State at the United Kingdom Foreign Office.
She has been a member of the United Kingdom Parliament for over forty (40) years and was one of only four Ministers who served continuously throughout the Margaret Thatcher and John Major administrations. She was made a Life Peer of the United Kingdom in 1992.
Presently, Baroness Chalker is an International Consultant, chairing Africa Matters Limited (AML), a consulting firm which specializes on African matters”.
Fagbohun noted that the choice of Baroness Chalker to deliver the Lecture is significant.
He said: “Not only is she a highly respected voice in global politics and business, she has also traversed the public and private sectors of Europe, the major base of international capital and its financial hub but also straddles this with uncommon knowledge of Africa.”
In furtherance, he cited that the primary aim of this lecture is to provide a platform for engagement between a consummate professional of global reckoning and the socio-political and economic leaders, the diplomatic corps and intelligentsia in repositioning the country and continent in global political economy.
Fagbohun expressed optimism that insights from Baroness Chalker, will hasten socio-political and economic leaders, the diplomatic corps and intelligentsia on the path to recovery.
“We are fully convinced that all relevant stakeholders will extremely benefit from her insight”, he said.
