LASU Best Student To Graduate With 4.95 CGPA As 76 Bag First Class Honours

Lagos State University (LASU) best graduating student for 2018/2019 Academic session is Shotunde Oladimeji Idris from the Business Administration Department, Faculty of Management Sciences with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95, LASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun SAN NPOM revealed.

This is just as the management of the institution announced that all is set for the convocation of 8,959 graduands out of which 76 will be awarded First Class Honours in its 24th Convocation Ceremony that will commence Friday, 20th to Friday, 27th March, 2020.

The VC made the announcement Friday during a pre convocation press conference held at the new senate building in the university’s premises.

It would be recalled that the university had during its 23rd Convocation Ceremony in 2019 Graduated 14,369 Graduands.

On the huge difference, the VC explained “the number of this year’s convocation ceremony is less than what the university had last three years. This is so because over the last four years, we have progressively cleared a vast majority of outstanding results, and graduated deserving Graduands over the period.”

Fagbohun who expressed satisfaction on the number of graduands to be awarded First Class Honours said that this is the highest in the history of university.

Giving a breakdown of the First Class Awardees, he stated that Faculty of Arts Produced four adding that amongst the four is a First Class graduate in English Language, according to him this is the first ever from the department.

Continuing, he said “faculty of Engineering produced 6, Faculty of Law produced 2 while Faculty of Management Sciences produce 17, School of Transport produced 1, Faculty of Science produce 24, once again the highest in the university and the Faculty of Social Sciences produce 8.”

“A total of 1,183 had Second Class Upper, 4,494 had Second Class Lower, 418 finished with Third Class Honours while 26 others have a pass Degree,” he said.

On the breakdown of graduands, he stated of 8,959 will receive degrees, diplomas and certificates at this year’s convocation. Of this number, 6,485 will receive First Degrees and Diplomas while 2,620 students will receive Higher Degrees as approved by the University Senate.

He stated “For the Higher Degrees, we will be awarding a total of 35 Doctorate Degrees, 1034 Professional Masters Degree, 664 Academic Masters Degree and 887 Postgraduate Diplomas, to make a total 2,620 Higher Degree Awards.”
