Organized Labour under the umbrella bodies of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have rebuffed the federal government and National Assembly pleas to shelve strike and return to the negotiation table over the new minimum wage.

Labour insisted on going ahead with its indefinite nationwide strike declared on Friday, 31 May, 2024 with effect from Monday, June 3, 2024, saying that it cannot call off the strike without the consents of its various organs which collectively endorsed to embark on the strike.

The NLC and TUC are pressing for what it called a living wage for workers and the reversal of the categorized electricity tariff billings.

According to NLC in its X handle, “We don’t have the right to call off the industrial action approved by our Organs . Thus, The action will continue while we will have a meeting with our Organs to relate to them your proposals – Organized Labour tells the Leadership Of the National Assembly.

“Strike Action Goes on, A living wage is Possible.”

Meanwhile, various unions affiliated with NLC and TUC have consented to down tools with effect from 00.01 am Monday, June 3, 2024
