Jigawa Vows To Blacklist Contractors Executing Sub-Standard Jobs As Bids Open For Rural Roads

The Jigawa state government has warned that it would blacklist any contractor found wanting in the execution of its roads and bridges contracts across the state.

The state commissioner for works and transport, Engr. Gambo S. Malam gave warning while declaring open the contract tenders for the execution of two rural roads in the state by the state roads maintenance agency, (JIRMA) on Monday in Dutse.

The affected roads contract included the rehabilitation/maintenance of Andaza-Gedawa-Aujara Lot-1 and Ungwar Mani- Korayel-Rorau-Korayel-Gwiwa road Lot-2

Represented by the Director of Township Roads in the Ministry, Engr. Musa Liman, the commissioner therefore, appealed to the contractors to adhere strictly not only to the agreed time for the completion of the projects, but also work strictly with the specified quality of the jobs.

The Director-General of Due Process Bureau, Prof. Kassim Muhammad, who echoed the commissioner’s admonition, however, assured the contractors that his agency would ensure that the process was devoid of time wasting, saying the Bureau would work with JIRMA towards ensuring that the projects were completed in time.

Prof. Muhammad, who was represented by the Director, Review & Compliant of the agency, Engr. Suleiman Shuaibu assured the contractors that there was no preferred contractors, saying that just as the bid opening was transparent, the agency would ensure that the final selection would also be fair.

According to him, “Due Process would ensure that the winner emerges as no one would be preferred while doing the evaluation and review, it’ll be in same transparent manner.”

The Managing Director of JIRMA, Engr. Abbas Muhammad Lale in a welcome remark said the state government places emphasis on qualitative and timely delivery of its works.

According to him, “As you know, we don’t compromise quality and we don’t play with time when it comes to the timing of our works. If a company qualifies for our job, we ensure that such jobs are completed on time. Defaulting contractors must let us know in writing in advance why there’ll be the delay, other wise such contractors would be blacklisted.”

Responding on behalf of the contractors, Mr. Pius Faruna commenced the open and transparent manner the bid took place and requested that such be applied to the selection process.

He said he had been a regular attendant of bidding processes in Jigawa and commenced the state government for the exercise.

Altogether, six companies bidded for the two projects. The highest bidding price for Lot-1 was N1.6 billion, while the lowest was N1. 2 billion. For Lot-2, the highest bidding price was N3.5 billion, while the least bidding price was N2.8 billion.
