The Jigawa state government is set to covert the recently-acquired the first and only private university, Khadija University Majia (KUM), into a specialized institution as part of a broader vision to make the state a centre of learning and research excellence.

Governor, Umar Namadi, who gave the hint, while addressing the combined convocation of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), said to achieve this desired objective, the institution would be operated on the public private partnership, (PPP) model, to enable it sustain its operations.

The governor once again reiterated his administration’s firm resolve to make education the bedrock of sustainable development in the State.

Namadi expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the momentous academic breakthrough, describing the convocation as both historic and inspirational, as he congratulated all the graduating students and applauded their dedication, perseverance, and achievements.

“Today is a testament to your dedication, perseverance, and hard work. You have overcome challenges and prepared yourselves to step into a world filled with more challenges which, however, comes with opportunities and responsibilities,” the Governor stated.

The governor lauded the management and academic leadership of the institution for upholding a tradition of academic excellence and innovation, adding that in spite of being just over a decade old, FUD has earned impressive accolades both nationally and internationally.

“With a history of only about 14 years, having been established in 2011, FUD is already making headlines in academic excellence and research. At various times, the University has been rated among the best performing in various spheres of academic endeavour. I am aware that, FUD was rated at one time as the best in Mathematical Sciences among all African Universities.”

The governor highlighted that his administration is already collaborating with the University in key research and development areas—particularly in agriculture, stating that through joint agricultural research initiatives, the State is seeking innovative solutions to farming challenges while empowering youth to become agribusiness leaders.

“Already, we are in partnership with the University in our bid to pioneer agricultural research and development initiatives which we are optimistic would yield promising solutions to local farming challenges and equipping our youth with the tools to lead innovation in agribusiness.”

“We have never faltered in our belief that education is the most powerful vehicle for sustainable development. As the backbone of human capital development, it is considered as a critical components of our strategic agenda for the development of the state”

In reaffirming his administration’s prioritization of the education sector, the governor listed major policy strides by the administration aimed at repositioning Jigawa’s educational landscape. These include:

” Consistently allocating a minimum of 30% of the state’s annual budget to education.

* Recruitment of qualified teachers to improve teaching quality in primary and secondary schools.

* Comprehensive renovation of dilapidated school structures and provision of modern learning facilities.

* Revitalization of technical and vocational education for self-reliance and practical skill development, and,

* Expansion and upgrading of tertiary institutions across the State.

The governor then urged the new graduates to be responsible citizens who embody the values of their Alma Mater and contribute meaningfully to society.

“Today’s milestones may only be the beginning of your life journey. The knowledge and skills you have acquired, the friendships you have built, and the lessons you have learned, will all serve as invaluable tools as you embark on your careers.”
