The Jigawa State Executive (SEC) has lifted the indefinite suspension clamped on one of its Commissioner and member of the Council, Alhaji Aminu Kanta.
Kanta, who is the state commissioner for Commerce was suspended last month following the public outrage that trailed the State Government Iftar Feeding Programme during just concluded Ramadan fast from his home local government of Babura.
The State Commissioner, Sagir Musa, while briefing the media on the outcome of the SEC meeting presided over by the state governor, Umar Namadi in Dutse, on Tuesday, said the development follows the review of the committee set up to probe the implementation of the iftar feeding programme in the letter cal government.
According to the commissioner, while committee identified the error of judgment on the part of the main food venture as principally as responsible for the misunderstanding when it carried out instructions, which were contrary to the ones approved by the Council, the committee, however indicted the suspended commissioner of poor supervision and negligence.
“The Council deliberated on the findings of the Committee which centered on Why the quantity of the menu for the local government feeding programme was carried out contrary to what was approved by the Council.
“The committee’s report revealed that the problem of Babura Feeding Programme occurred as result of error of judgment of the contractor A.A Shitu Ltd the main food venture, was disbursing funds per Ward instead of per Centre which was the reason why cost of feeding was reduced to 50% of the total daily cost for each feeding center.
“Other findings of the committee revealed that the problem was not detected early due to the poor supervision of the exercise by the suspended Commissioner On a positive note, all the balance of the 50% unspent by the vendor was recovered and returned to the coffers of the state government.
“The committee also observed the remorse and regret shown by the suspended commissioner for his mistake, accordingly the committee recommended for his forgiveness and pardon by the governor
“Further, the committee recommended the lifting of the suspension on Aminu Kanta, the Commissioner of Commerce. Accordingly, the Council has unanimously approved the reinstatement of the suspended Commissioner back to his job as commissioner.
“The Council has also commended the committee for a well-done job and especially the Honorable Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara and SEMA team for the successful Ramadan Feeding Programme by refunding total of N101.1 million unspent funds to the state government treasury after the programme.”
He said the Council further deliberated and approved the Revised Jigawa State Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Policy. The current WASH policy is expected to run from 2023-2028 in line with provision which state that the policy should be revised after every five years.
The Councils approved the release of sum of One Billion, Fifty-Seven Million, Seven Hundred and Seventeen Thousand, Sixty-Five Naira and One Kobo (N1,057,717,065.01) only for the award of contract for the construction of Tsangaya Integrated Centers at 3 selected town in each of the senatorial district of the State under Better Education Service Delivery (BESDA) Project.
The Council also approved the sum of 1.5 billion as variation for the contract for the construction of 500 unit of Houses of 2-Bedrooms Semi Detached at Dutse, Hadejia, Gumel, Kazaure, Ringim, Kafin Hausa and Birnin Kudu respectively.
The commissioner also announced submission of Draft Bills on New Agencies to the State House Assembly for passage into law. The newly proposed Agencies for which theBills were drafted including:
Jigawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (JISITDEA); Jigawa State Residents Identity Management Agency (JISRIMA);Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board (JISTEB) and Jigawa State Senior Secondary Schools Management.
