Jigawa Govt Disburses N774 Million As  Scholarship Allowances To 26,835 Students

The Jigawa state government has  released over N774 million as scholarship allowance to 26,835 students for the 2023 academic year.

This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Scholarship Board, Malam Sa’idu Magaji in a chat with reporters in Dutse, said the amount was for the students studying in the institutions of learning across the country, for which the board had already commenced the payment.

He explained that “the state government has released a total sum of N774,810,085.00k being the allowance for 26,835 students studying at different higher institutions in Nigeria”.

According to him “this amount is for the 26,835 states’ indigenes students studying at different higher institutions in the country, with exception of our foreign students”.

Magaji noted that the board has already commenced the payment to the beneficiary students, “immediately we received the funds, we embarked on the payment as directed by his excellency governor Malam Umar Namadi”.

“We scheduled our payments in to three categories, starting with students studying in institutions within the state whom were more in number. While the second category is those of neighbouring Kano state and the third is the students of the Institutions out side JIgawa and Kano states”.

“We have since finished with students within JIgawa and Kano states, who have all received their allowances. We’re now concentrating on other institutions of learning across the country. 

“Even at that, we have paid the students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, (UDUS) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi”.

The executive secretary said “so far we have paid over 95 percent of the students. They were all received their allowances, except some with peculiar problems of transaction failures”.

He added that “what we are doing is that, anytime we received any complaint from any of the beneficiary we will check our bank records to find out what is the problem is and in most cases, we discovered its mostly due to failed transactions, a dormant account or etc and rectify it”

Magaji expressed gratitude to the governor for his support to the board and in carrying its duty successfully.
