The Jigawa State deputy governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi has picked the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progresives Congress, (APC) in the state.
In a keenly contested primaries, Namadi floored 8 other contestants to clinch the ticket.
The Electoral Officer from the party’s headquarters, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, who announced the results at the early hours of Friday at the Aminu Kano Triangle, Dutse, disclosed that Namadi scored a total of 1, 220 votes, followed by Sen. Sabo Muhamnad Nakudu with 106 votes.
Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia secured 58 votes, with Arc. Aminu Muhamnad Kani with 16 votes; Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu got 13 while Bar. Hussaini Sani Garun Gabas (SAN) coasting home with five votes.
Ahmed Mahmoud, Adam Mukhtar Muhamnad and Ahmed Rufai Zakaria scored no votes.
A total of 1,435 votes were cast out which 418 votes were validated, while 2 invalid votes were recorded.
In his acceptance speech, the deputy governor, thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve as his deputy and also thanked APC members for their support for his candidature.
He praised his fellow contestants for their maturity, decency and objectiveness during the period of the campaigns. He called on them to join him in ensuring that the party wins the next elections.
Daily Trust reports that, Governor, Alhaji Muhamnad Badaru Abubakar stayed away from the venue of the exercise.
