As part of its efforts to boost the efficiency of its workforce, the Jigawa State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) has spent a whooping N58.8 million to train staff of the 27 local government council staff in 2025.

The Chairman of the Commission Uba Bala Ringim, while giving a yearly account of the commission’s activities at a media interaction in Dutse Thursday, also disclosed that no fewer than 163 personnel of the 27 councils embarked on the capacity-building, workshop and seminar to enhance service delivery and staff competence.

Ringim, a retired deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) said altogether 658 cutting across the three senatorial zones in the state benefitted from the training exercise.

Giving the breakdown of the figures of the beneficiaries of the training exercise, the chairman said 229 people benefitted from the training exercise to the tune of N 22.1 million; 212 beneficiaries were trained to the tune of N18.3 million while 217 participants from Jigawa Northeast benefitted to the tune of N18.2 million.

He explained that, the mandate of the commission include appointments, promotion and discipline of local government staff, capacity building and manpower development, posting and deployment of senior personnel as well as ensuring compliance with civil service rules and established guidelines.

 

He maintained that, 569 staff are promoted from Jigawa central, 624 from Jigawa North-West while 489 staff are from Jigawa North-East senatorial zone.

 

While speaking on retirement, he explained that,  from local government council about 628 staff retired, while from Local Education Authority (LEA) about 704 staff retired during the year under review.

 

According to him, in the same year of 2025, about 72 local government council staff ost their lives while a number of 83 Local Education Authority  LEA) staff lost their lives in 2025.

 

 

He identified delays in promotion exercises, poor records management, Inadequate manpower and limited capacity to handle increasing volumes of promotion and disciplinary matters limited training opportunities in modern personnel and human resource management practices.

 

To address the challenge, the commission proposed immediate redeployment, filling the critical vacancies through redeployment from councils with more than enough manpower, regularization of acting positions and formal confirmation of officers serving in acting capacities, where due process is met.

 

He believed that effective implementation of these measures would significantly strengthen staff efficiency, accountability, discipline and service delivery across the local government system in the state.

 

He lauded Governor Umar Namadi for his support to commission, permanent commissioners, and entire staff of the commission.
