With barely two weeks to the end of the tenure of local government council chairmen in Jigawa state, the State House of Assembly has reinstated the four local government council chairmen who were suspended for alleged misconduct, negligence and unjudicious use of public funds found.
The legislators, who lifted the suspension clamped on four council chairmen on March 6, during its preliminary sitting after the resolutions of the Assembly through voting then, asked them to resume their official duties in their respective local government councils with immediate effect.
The affected local councils’ bosses were Bappa Shinge of Auyo LGA, Bala Usman-Chamo of Dutse LGA, Ahmed Rufa’i of Gumel LGA and Shehu Sule-Udi of Ringim LGA.
The tenure of the chairmen are expected to lapse in June 27. It would be recalled that the chairmen of the 27 local government areas in the state were sworn-in by the immediate past governor and current Minister of Defence, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
The lawmakers have earlier accused the chairmen of alleged misconduct, negligence and injudicious use of public funds found by its Committee on Local Government during its oversight visits to the thier respective local government areas which led to their indefinite suspension.
The House also set up an ad-hoc committee to investigate the suspended council chairmen and further investigated the matter.
The committee had on Thursday oday presented it’s report to the House said members of the committee has carefully reviewed of documents before the committee, including a consultant’s report on each of the four local governments.
Mr Aminu Zakari, the Ag. Chairman of the committee, while presenting its report, listed 11 findings/observations by committee during its investigation the documents submitted by the suspended council chairmen in defence of the accusations against them, and also their please before the committee, the committee came up with 11 recommendations.
One of the recommendations according to the chairman, is to issue a stern warning to the affected chairmen to desist from any act unethical or unbecoming of holder of the office of local government council in both administrative and financial dealings.
“That this Honourable House should graciously consider the pleas of the suspended council chairmen”.
The committee report revealed that “That the suspension placed against the following council chairmen Bappa Shinge-Auyo LG, Bala Usman-Chamo-Dutse LG, Ahmed Rufa’i-Gumel and Shehu Sule-Udi-Ringim LG, be lifted and that they should resume thier duties as the chairmen if thier respective LGs”.
Consequent upon the resolution of the Assembly through voting, the Speaker, Haruna Aliyu Dangyantin recalled the four chairmen to resume office with immediate effect.
Reacting on behalf the chairmen, Chamo of Dutse LGA who was untill their was the Chairman of the State Branch of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), commended the lawmakers for the gesture and thanked thier supporters and well wishers for thier solidarity.
Chamo added, “Not only four of us, but all 27 LGA will continue to our best in serving our people “.
He reaffirmed their loyalty to governor Malam Umar Namadi and APC, also commitment to work for the APC to be more stronger, unity and victorious at all time.
