Jigawa Anti-Corruption Body Showcases Achievements , Recovers N385.4  Million In 18 Months

The Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (JSPACC)  has recovered almost N386 million not in the state government  coffers arising from alleged corrupt activities.

Similarly the anti -graft body disclosed that the recovered money allegedly were from government officials, private individuals, and corporate entities, explaining that it is in addition to the resolution of the over 115 complaints relating to funds and assets recovery, including landed properties.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday as part of the activities marking the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day in Dutse the Executive Chairman of the Commission Salisu Abdu said the feat achieved within a short period of 18 months was significant given the negative impact of corruption in the state.

According to him, the anti-graft agency came into being through an Act of Parliament only in June 2023 barely a month after the assumption of the office of the current governor, Umar Namadi.

He maintained that December 9 every had been set aside by the United Nations General Assembly to raise global awareness about corruption and the role of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

This is a moment of collective reflection on the universal threat of corruption and an opportunity to strengthen our resolve.

For him the Day is not just a symbolic observance. “It is a global reminder that the fight against corruption is a non-negotiable requirement for peace, security, and sustainable development. It is a day that calls citizens, institutions, and governments to uphold integrity.

“For the JSPCACC, this day offers a moment to reassess our strategies and reaffirm our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the principles of UNCAC—the very pillars on which our enabling law stands. It is a time to renew our determination to make corruption a high-risk and low-reward venture in Jigawa state.”

According to him, “Corruption remains the greatest obstacle to the prosperity envisioned by Governor  Umar Namadi, It steals opportunities from our farmers, our children, and our entrepreneurs.

“When resources meant for development are diverted, the result is poor healthcare, failing schools, abandoned projects, and lost hope,but with the support of government and the public, we are committed to breaking this cycle.

Since the establishment of the Commission in February 2023, he said  had pursued a strategy rooted in aggressive enforcement, systemic prevention, and timely administrative justice.

He emphasized that the commission could not succeed alone. The fight belongs to the government, private sector, and every citizen.

Since operationalizing fully in April 2024, the Commission has received 479 complaints Out of the figure, he said the commission has handled 110 corruption-related cases, including financial crimes, breach of trust, cheating, fraud, and recovery of funds and properties.

In addition, he said the commission has filed and prosecuted 20 cases before Magistrate and State High Courts, while of confirming the arrest and  invitation of numerous senior government officials and contractors, demonstrating that no one is above the law.

“These achievements show our commitment to end impunity and institutionalize transparency.
2.2 Public Complaints Resolution (The Voice).

“As the “Voice of the People,” we received 355 actionable public complaints involving administrative injustice, family disputes, failed transactions, and land-related issues out of which 107 cases were resolved amicably, primarily through mediation.”

The JSPCACC, he said, remains motivated, legally empowered, and strategically positioned, noting “We will be fair, but firm, we will be relentless, but always guided by the rule of law and respect for human rights. Let integrity triumph over corruption in Jigawa state.
